The maritime and naval pole of the FMES is supported by the maritime department, which works on legal, environmental, economic, security and military issues specific to the seas and oceans.
Every year, the maritime department organizes the “High Maritime Studies Session”, a unique training program in France dedicated to major contemporary maritime issues.

The High Maritime Studies Session (Session des Hautes Etudes Maritimes – SHEM) is a program developed by FMES since 2022. This session offers its listeners a panoramic vision of the main maritime issues and enables them to grasp the strategies and policies implemented at sea to meet contemporary needs. In addition to the core curriculum, a research theme is defined each year, and is a key feature of the session.
